Common questions
Is my data private?
Yes. Your records are stored on your device only. There is no account and no login.
Two things can leave your device: brand names, sent to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission while the recall check is switched on, and a single photo, only if you agree to the one-time “Read with AI?” prompt. Nothing else is uploaded unless you export a backup yourself.
Does it cost anything?
No. Scanning, reminders, calendar export and recall checks are free.
Some links in the app — for coverage, filters and batteries — may pay FrogCog a small referral commission if you buy. That never costs you extra, and each offer says whether its link pays us.
What do “started”, “booked” and “registered” mean?
We can’t verify anything with the manufacturer — there’s no public way to do that. “Started” or “booked” means we opened or emailed the form for you. “Confirmed” or “registered” means you told us you finished it on their site. The same honesty applies to extended coverage.
Why can’t you book the repair automatically?
Manufacturers don’t offer a public booking system. We prepare everything — the fault, your product details, proof of warranty — ready to paste, then hand you off to their real service page.
How do reminders work when the app is closed?
Add your warranty expiries and maintenance dates to your phone’s calendar (in the app: Account → Settings → “Add all reminders to my calendar”). Your calendar then delivers the notification — no need for the app to be open.
How accurate is the warranty end date?
It’s worked out from the maker’s standard term and the purchase date, so treat it as a guide. If your paperwork says otherwise — an extended plan, a different term — go with the paperwork.
Is a recall match certain?
No. FrogCog flags a possible recall when the brand and product type match, and links you to the official notice so you can confirm the model and date yourself.
Is FrogCog for U.S. homes only?
For now, yes. The registration links, the coverage providers, the safety-recall checks (the official CPSC list) and the consumer-rights guidance are all U.S.-specific. We’d rather get one country right first.
What if I lose my phone?
Everything lives on your device, so back it up: in the app, Account → Data management → Export downloads a file — including your photos — that you can restore from later or move to a new device.
